Music Director
Michael Miller
From September 2008 the position of Music Director was taken up by Michael Miller. Michael has been a member of the choir since the beginning of the year, where his tenor voice proved an invaluable asset. He had assisted in rehearsals from time-to-time when Howard Seymour was unavailable. He has a great deal of experience in voice coaching and choral direction. From his early years as a chorister in the Collegiate Church of St Mary, Warwick, his interest in voice training and techniques have been paramount.
Michael sang with the Hereford Chamber Choir last year and it was clear at this point that he had a certain rapport with his fellow choir members. This, coupled with vast experience in choral and solo singing, made him an ideal applicant for the post. When the opportunity became vacant, Michael was as keen as the rest of the choir that he should take over in the new term. The traditions of the Choir will be maintained and venues such as cathedrals, churches and abbeys will be preferred. This also applies to the music repertoire but Michael would like to explore and show versatility in other areas on occasion.
Michael is currently ‘Director of Music’ with The Lucton Chorale at Lucton School and has joined their dedicated music department as a singing teacher. He regularly sings tenor in the Hereford Cathedral representing the Hereford Cathedral Voluntary Choir and other choirs. Michael has been most successful as a voice coach to the Warwickshire Youth Chorale and has helped to ‘unlock that voice within’ for so many young singers. He is committed to cultivate young voices in Herefordshire and welcomes young choral scholars to join our Hereford Chamber Choir. Qualifying at Coventry School of Music, as a pianist, singer and composer, he teaches piano and singing privately. Michael is married to Julie and has four children – two of whom sing with the Hereford Chamber Choir. He is a keen squash player and also has a passion for cooking.
