Welcome!
The Choir
has a very
busy start to the 2011 autumn season, leading through to the Advent and
Christmas period. Our rehearsal schedule
brings, once again, a wide and varied programme of music, much of which
will be
new and quite demanding. Also, within the
schedule, will be included some known and well-loved choral works. Our first engagement will be in Hereford Cathedral on 22 October, in the leading of Choral Evensong. The Preces & Responses, together with the Anthem, Drop, Drop, Slow Tears are both by Kenneth Leighton with the wonderful setting of the Magnificat & Nunc Dimitis in C by C.V. Stanford.
The Major event this autumn will be a concert at Holy Trinity Church where the main work will be the Requiem by Maurice Duruflé. This will be supported with music by Tchaikovsky, Whitacre, Campbell, Finzi and other notable composers. We are delighted to say that our organ accompanist for the evening will be the talented Hereford Cathedral Organ Scholar, Douglas Tang, who will also be performing some short solo works.
As has become our custom in recent years, the Chamber Choir will be singing mass at St Francis Xavier in the morning service on Sunday November 27th, when the form will be Schubert Mass in G.
As we come into the season of Advent, we will, once again, be supporting the work of ‘Save the Children’, organised by our President, Mrs June Chase MBE, with a concert of carols in the Cathedral Cloisters on the Evening of Wednesday December 7th.
Our final performance of the year, leading us into Christmas, will be the Carol Concert at the church of St. Andrew, Bredwardine, on Friday December 16th.
