Young Composers Workshop 2.30 – 4.30pm Saturday 8th July. Ledbury Parish Church
In continuation of this commitment to education, Fraz Ireland, who is one of the commissioned composers and part of the panel of the Young Composers' Competition, will be running a free-to-attend workshop at the festival. Fraz Ireland’s recent work has included a piece for the Gloucestershire Youth Orchestra that celebrates the history of Tewkesbury Abbey, a choose-your-own-adventure style piano solo composed for Psappha and performed by Ben Powell, and a brass fanfare for the Help Musicians’ Festival of St Cecilia performed at St Paul’s Cathedral.
The workshop will be open to anyone of secondary school age (11-18) who is interested in composition, whether you’ve been writing music for years or you’re just starting out, or maybe you’re enjoying learning an instrument and you’re not sure where to start when it comes to writing. During the afternoon the workshop will provide guidance and support to young composers, with some composing activities, suggestions on how to progress, tips on approaching composition, and a deeper look at some of the music that’s been composed for the evening’s concert, as well as an opportunity for you to ask any questions about composing and being a composer.
Entry to the workshop is free but all participants should book a place in advance. For more information and to reserve a place please email: hilarymarkland@outlook.com or call 07769289076
